Accessibility

Zaanstad is ideally located in the metropolitan region of Amsterdam and is easily accessible: by road, rail and water. And that accessibility will be improved even further over the coming years.

Road

Zaanstad is a 15-minute drive away from Amsterdam and around 25 minutes from Schiphol Airport. The second Coen Tunnel makes Zaanstad even more accessible and the Zuidelijke Randweg has considerably improved the link between the A8 and A9.

Rail

Trains stop at six NS stations in Zaanstad. From five of the stations a train departs for Amsterdam Central Station every quarter of an hour and even every 5 to 10 minutes from NS Intercity Station Zaandam. Schiphol can be reached from Intercity Station Zaandam in 16 minutes.

Water

Zaanstad can also be easily accessed by water due to its location on the North Sea Canal and the connection via the Zaan River towards the top of North Holland. And in the future, that will be even better when the Zaan Lock is widened and a new sea lock is built in IJmuiden.
