Location And accessibility

The peninsula is in the Zaan River and is part of the 't Kalf district in Zaandam Noord. It is located to the south of the Juliana Bridge and to the north of the A8. The Hemmes is a 5-minute drive away from the (A7 / A8) national trunk road. There is a bus stop a 3-minute walk away, from which buses depart every half hour for the NS stations of Zaandam (15 minutes), Zaandam Kogerveld (7 minutes) and Amsterdam Sloterdijk (30 minutes). Urban facilities in the form of a shopping centre, sports clubs and recreation are within walking distance.

The Hemmes peninsula is approx. 5.6 hectares in size and consists mostly of fallow land. Two businesses are established there: Kramer Ship Repair & Engineering Works and Crane and Transport company Joh. Schol. It is not yet known how many hectares will become available in the future situation.

Zoning Plan

In the zoning plan this site is designated for 'business'. In the longer term, the Hemmes will be designated for housing, with space for private self-build and for developers. The Hemmes is also suitable for entrepreneurs who wish to work from home and for small-scale industry. The view over the water and the space make the Hemmes a very attractive location for living in the future. Due to the rough and tough nature of the current situation, combined with a long period of little activity, it is suitable for future residents and entrepreneurs who like pioneering and space. The shipyard at the top of the peninsular is of cultural-historic value. The plan is to create a living environment, with plots for individually designed houses, which takes into account the cultural-historic value of the landscape and the buildings.
